3rd Year at the snow

I can't believe this was Ela's third time to go to the snow. She was so excited about it and asked us all the way there (for about 5 hours worth of driving) "where's the snow?" We didn't have the heart to tell her that we wouldn't see any until the following day when we actually visited the ski field!

Luckily though there was plenty of snow around Anglers Reach where we stayed and so she got to see some on the Friday night. Our holiday house was lovely and Ela's friend Oli (and his mum and dad) came to stay too. Ela and Oli busied themselves discovering the house and opening all the cupboards in the kitchen to empty out the pots and pans which made great 'toys'.

On Saturday we drove up to Mount Selwyn with perfect conditions. Crisp blue sunny skies and plenty of snow for making snow balls and snowmen. Ela couldn't wait to get her hands in the white stuff, but was quite perplexed at how cold it was. She was frustrated that she couldn't do anything with her gloves on but without them her fingers froze :)

She had a momentary dislike of toboganning after her first run with dad and declared it was too scary and she wanted to go home. Luckily we managed to coax her into another run and then there was no stopping her. Team Huber was off with Ela jumping out at the bottom of each run and shouting 'let's go again dad'. Poor Mark had to carry his princess back up the slope everytime and by mid afternoon was exhausted.

There were tobogan races with Oli (who even managed to get an afternoon nap in his pram once his dad pushed him around the carpark). But being 8mths pregnant, I just had to sit and watch while poor dad got to do all the work.
When we got home that afternoon, Ela just woke to see a massive kangaroo hopping away from our front lawn! Then it was back in the house for more 'cooking' and 'picnics'.

Next year we think she'll be ready for skis and lessons with Dad while I get to tobogan with buba boy.
